January 30, 2008 **PLEASE READ** Here is the decision from the Stampede executive committee. This year's Stampede will consist of a Single Distance Event, 10 kilometers. Start time is 11:00am at Mancelona High School, as normal. The finish will be at Schuss Mountain Resort, as normal. The high school opens for registration and breakfast at 9:00 am. Pre-event informational meeting is at 10:30am. There will no place determinations or age grade classes. All skiers will receive a medal and their elapsed time, plus the standard issue skier's bag with t-shirt and other items. For those who have not registered, yet, the entry fee is now $35.00. Registration is open through 10:30 am Saturday morning. All transportation arrangements should remain the same with shuttle buses running from Schuss Mt. back to Mancelaona High School.
Please understand, the very identity of the Stampede as a 'point-to-point" event is what has caused our difficulties. Our course changes each year. There are always last minute issues with access to private property, etc. Hence, we are not able to pack or prepare our trail long in advance. Many stretches of trail we expected to use are still virtually snowless, or with so little snow as to be unpassable on skis. Our crew will endeavor to make the 10 kilometer trail as adequate as possible, but we expect there will still be multiple areas with very thin snow. It is NOT likely there will be any set, kick-and-glide track. 'Rock-skis' are advised.

Here we go again. Thirty-six hours of warm temperatures have taken their toll. Portions of our course in open areas have lost ALL snow cover. Snow potential looks good for tonight, but a deep layer of snow is needed. An important update will be posted early tomorrow afternoon.

January 24, 2008
More snow has fallen over the past few days (4-5") and a solid base is on the ground. Much of the course has been rolled so it will sustain a short warm-up expected early next week. And, right behind the warm-up, another surge of cold air with good snow potential is expected. Snow conditions should be excellent come February 2nd. Register now. Remember $5.00 of every registration goes to Children's Hospital of Michigan.

Janurary 21, 2008
The annual January thaw was brutal but early. The recovery has been substantial with snow every day and more predicted. All three races will be run as scheduled; then join the volunteers for their after race party.

We have lots of snow and the skiiing is great. More is on its way, so that white stuff can keep piling up.

October 22, 2007

February 2007
Thank you all For joining us! In the end, it was another successful White Pine Stampede. More than four hundred participated. Our contribution to Children's Hospital Of Michigan was nearly $2500.00, including an extra $600 contributed above the $5.00 deduction from each registration fee.

LOST AND FOUND: Very few items were turned in: if you are missing a jacket or a pair of sneekers talk to the race office by e-mail or phone (231) 587-8812. Next year's White Pine Stampede will be on February 2nd, mark your calendar now.
